KAKINDO VILLAGE · UGANDA · SINCE 2025

The people making this possible

Ubuntu Village! is not an anonymous fund. It is a handful of named people who kept saying yes to each other — a village leader, a musician (brother friend), PhD Professor and the women whose homes were rebuilt.

Kiiza Wilbroad

FOUNDER & PROJECT LEAD, KAKINDO VILLAGE

The young man who started it all. In 2025 he brought the reality of his community — storm-wrecked homes and widows left without shelter — to Ubuntu International, then spotted, verified and coordinated every household the project has served since.

Grammy-nominated British reggae musician and toaster, known worldwide for his work with disadvantaged communities. He funded Mary's rebuild from roof to floor, then helped purchase the six acres the Ubuntu Village now stands on.

WHERE THE JOURNEY BEGAN, KAKINDO VILLAGE

At 85, living with HIV, Mary lost her family home to the storm. Her rebuilt house — new roof, floor, toilet and rainwater tank — became the first proof that this could work.

HOW IT HAPPENED

From one storm to a village

2025

One conversation

A storm tore through Kakindo Village, taking dozens of homes — including those of the village's widows. Kiiza Wilbroad approached Pato Banton, whose Ubuntu International had spent years working with disadvantaged communities around the world, and explained what had happened.

FIRST

Mary's House

Mary's story stood out. Pato organised the funds to renovate her home from roofing to flooring, and added a toilet and a water tank to harvest rainwater. She could store her medication, rest without fear and live with dignity again.

THEN

Eight more widows

Conversations continued about how Pato could get more involved. Kiiza immediately identified eight vulnerable widows in the same situation as Mary. With Pato's support, six acres of land were purchased and the Ubuntu Village! Housing Project began — eight permanent homes.

NOW

Edentia International

To operate legitimately in Uganda and internationally, Kiiza and Pato registered Edentia International — focused on supporting disadvantaged people and communities, and on sourcing funds and partnerships at an international level.

TODAY

The women have moved in

Eight widows and their children and grandchildren have officially moved into their homes — safe, permanent housing that restores dignity, safety and stability. A main house was added with a meeting hall, two bedrooms and a kitchen space.

NEXT

Academy and clinic

A substantial donation has been secured to add the Ubuntu Learning & Leadership Academy and a clinic on a newly purchased one-acre site.

Ubuntu — “I am because we are.”

Edentia International and Ubuntu International keep this work accountable to the community it serves. The next homes, the academy and the clinic all start the same way: someone naming a need, and someone else answering it.

I am because we are.
